2009 Festival entertains audiences

Our third annual Greenwood Music Festival was a phenomenal success , with over 700 people attending the five events over two weekends. Stacey Robinson entertained a packed house at First Baptist Church, with his booming baritone, in selections that included songs from “Man of La Mancha”, “South Pacific” and several spirituals. He also brought down the house with his signature piece “Ol’ Man River”. Senator Floyd Nicholson, Greenwood’s newest SC State Senator, was in attendance and posed for a photo afterwards with Stacey. A spectacular evening!

The children’s opera “Pinocchio” delighted kids and adults at the Greenwood Community Theatre. Opera for Kids! FBN Productions from Columbia, SC, presented the South Carolina premier of this new adaptation of the familiar story. Children sought autographs from the cast and posed for pictures following the performance.

The Bridge String Quartet performed Schubert’s daunting “Death and the Maiden” quartet, Mozart’s “A Little Night Music” and selections from “West Side Story” during their concert at the Arts Center at the Federal Building.

Finally, The Palmetto Mastersingers from Columbia, SC returned to Greenwood and offered a splendid afternoon concert co-sponsored with Sundays @ Four Concert Series at First Presbyterian Church. The concert featured sacred music, spirituals, beach music, music from the “Rat Pack” era, and lighter fare. A smaller ensemble from the Mastersingers also performed Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time” that had the capacity audience cheering. We hope you enjoyed this third season of the Greenwood Music Festival, and look forward to hopefully seeing you during our fourth season in 2010. Thanks to all our wonderful artists, co-sponsors, patrons, friends and family, and our many volunteers for making this season a tremendous success. Have a terrific year!
